Rangamati Government College is one of the ancient and renowned government colleges in the country. It is the largest college in Chattogram Hill Tracts. This well-reputed educational institution has continuously been playing a magnificent role as a beacon of light in disseminating higher education in Chattogram Hill Tracts region.On July 1,1965 Rangamati College launched its journey with a noble effort of Mr Mujibul Haque [erstwhile Headmaster of Rangamati Government High School] and the heartiest co-operation from Mr Siddiqur Rahman [erstwhile Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Parbatya Chattogram]. On that auspicious day the classes of the College started first at Rangamati Govt. High School Building with only 92 students of Humanities, Commerce and Science groups at Higher Sceondary level. Later the College Building was shifted to Old Court Building area adjacent to the present Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board (CHTBD) Complex. ST Hossain, Dr AK Dewan, Dr B Khisa and Hajee A Quddus are to be remembered with  gratitude among local prominent personalities for their earnest contributions with utmost dedication to rapid construction and erection of the College Complex. Mr Mujibul Haque was the first Principal In-Charge of Rangamati College. On May 1,1970 Rangamati College was nationalized and since then Rangamati Government College initiated its activities at present campus. Mr Hasan Wayez served as the Principal In-Charge of the College during its Nationalization process while Mr Promod Ranjan Barua joined Rangamati Govt. College as its first regular full-fledged Principal. Humanities, Business Studies and Science groups at Higher Secondary level; BA, BSS, BBS, BSc Courses under Degree (Pass) level; Honours Courses in Bangla, English, History, Islamic History and Culture, Philosophy, Economics, Political Science, Accounting, Management, Physics, Botany, Zoology and Mathematics; Masters Preliminary in Political Science; Masters Final in English, History, Islamic History and Culture, Economics, Political Science, Botany, Accounting and Management are existent in operation in Rangamati Government College. A total of 12,636 students at different levels are now studying in the College. Estabilshed upon 23.28 acres of land area, Rangamati Government College is exquisitely surrounded by an overwhelming natural beauty enriched with wonderful green hills, tranquil and extensive Kaptai Lake, panoramic landscapes, vast greenery of flora and fauna. A serene, peaceful and congenial academic atmosphere always prevails here. This istruly a unique seat of both acquiring as well as spreading of knowledge and education- a real place of harmonious union for teachers, students and employees. A bountiful natural environment has enriched the college campus and added an outstanding dimension to its surroundings at large.
